DESCRIPTION
The first edition.
A complete seven volume set.
Part of the Rerum Britannicarum Medii Aevi Scriptores, or The Chronicles and Memorials of Great Britain and Ireland During the Middle Ages series. This series strived to publish, edit and compile historical manuscripts and materials from the middle ages, to preserve their contents and make them more accessible.
This historical work was edited by James Craigie Robertson, a Scottish churchman and author of historical works. This work features a collection of historical materials on Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1161 to 1170. The task of editing these historical materials was given to Robertson, who has published a biography on Becket in 1859, by the Master of the Rolls.
In mixed library re-bindings from The Institute of Historical Research, with the usual stamps.
