SELLERS NOTE:Al Williams and hiswife, Katharine Hyde Williams, opened the legendary Papagayo Room inthe FairmontHotel in San Francisco in 1945. The restaurant became a destination and wasknown for its Mexican cooking and iconic parrot trademark. Movie stars,politicians, dignitaries, as well as ordinary people regularly coexisted in Aland Katharine Williams wildly popular restaurant until its closing in 1961. NelsonRockefeller has been credited in encouraging them to open the Papagayo Room.Notable diners from the entertainment industry included Jack Benny, Bob Hope,Mae West, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole and Marilyn Monroe. KatharineWilliams always said thather husbands outgoing personality and knowledge ofMexican cooking, which he learned from his mother, for the restaurants success.
