Complete in two volumes. Both from a limited edition of 1500 copies, volume I number 131; volume II number 97.
Containing the collected works of Francois Rabelais, a French Renaissance writer, physician, Renaissance humanist, monk and Greek scholar. He is primarily known as a writer of satire, of the grotesque, and of bawdy jokes and songs. His most notable work is Gargantua and Pantagruel, a pentalogy of novels telling the adventures of two giants.
In the original French. Collected from the original editions accompanied by a bibliography and a glossary by Louis Moland. A new edition preceded by a biographical sketch of the author by Henri Clouzot. From the collection Selecta des Classiques Garnier.
CONDITION
In uniform half morocco bindings over marbled boards signed Flammarion, original wraps bound in with the volumes. Externally lovely, lightly faded to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very clean throughout.
