Terrific Hand Weaved Splint Oak Market Gathering Basket
Very Rare in Rectangular Shape & Great Weaving Pattern, Exc. Condition
Collectors Treasure!!! Approx: 14" L x 11" W x 12" H, 1 lb, Circa late 1800s
Note: This sale is for the 14"x11" rectangle basket only, not the fruit or any other items shown in the pictures. Those items are used to show the display quality of the item. Some other items may listed for sale separately in our store.
WOW! Super antique hand weaved market or gathering basket, probably later 1800s. Nice rich brown tones. Makes a great display piece as shown in pictures. We just put a few colorful pieces of fruit & fabric in it to show its display potential. We searched eBay going back over 25 years and did not see one exactly like this. Only a few authentic and nice rectangle style baskets come up for sale per year (if any), but we did not find a single one with this cross weave pattern on the handle. The basket is in great shape but not perfect, but we did not see anything really effecting its appeal or display quality. This was from a private collection of outstanding primitives & antiques. We left it much as we found it, minus some dust. It makes a great display piece and in a nice size for most counters, shelves or other. It weighs just about a pound and is pretty solid all around. We believe it is oak, but could be another wood perhaps.

We often take from 30-60+ minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected. We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only one time in over 2,000 US shipped sales). For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyers responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service & we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us & then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often.
